Thika Superhighway: A Landmark Infrastructure.
Thika Road, widely recognized as the Thika Superhighway, stands as a testament to Kenya's commitment to modern infrastructure development. Spanning 50 kilometers, this 8-lane marvel not only connects the capital city of Nairobi to the bustling industrial hub of Thika but also serves as a crucial segment of the A2 Highway, a vital artery in the Cape to Cairo Road network.
The genesis of the Thika Superhighway dates back to January 2009 when construction commenced, marking the dawn of a transformative project aimed at enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth. Endorsed by a consortium of stakeholders, including the African Development Bank, the Exim Bank of China, and the Kenyan government, the project boasted a total investment of Ksh 32 billion (US$360 million).
Under the stewardship of separate contractors, the highway underwent meticulous development, culminating in its grand inauguration in November 2012, officiated by the then President of Kenya, the late Mwai Kibaki. Divided into three distinct sections, each contractor contributed to the realization of this monumental infrastructure,leading to a new era of transportation efficiency and accessibility.
